How do I allow Sync to work with Trend Micro OfficeScan?

Some firewall and Antivirus programs sometimes block Sync from working properly.

Here’s how to add Sync as an exception in Trend Micro OfficeScan 12.0.1315:

Part I: Adding exception on the Agent Console
  1. Click on the OfficeScan icon from the system tray and select Open OfficeScan Agent Console.

  3. Unlock Advanced Settings, enter password (set during installation) and click OK then click on Settings.
     
    Note: Advanced Settings auto-locks when left idle, you will have to re-enter password when this happens.

  5. From the Protection tab on the Settings window, select Real-time Scan and scroll down to Exclusions.
  6.  

  7. Type C:\Users\IEUser\AppData\Local\Programs\Sync on the Directories field, click on Add then click Apply.
     
    Note: Replace IEUser with your actual Windows username. If you’re not sure what your username is, hold down the CTRL, ALT and DEL keys on your keyboard all at once and click on Task Manager. Go to the Users tab to see your username.
     
    Click here if you can’t find the AppData folder.

  9. Repeat #3,  selecting Manual Scan then scroll down to Exclusions and proceed to #4.
  10. Repeat #3, selecting Scheduled Scan then scroll down to Exclusions and proceed to #4.
  11. Still on the Protection tab, select Behavior Monitoring then click Browse.
  12. Navigate to C:\Users\IEUser\AppData\Local\Programs\Sync and select sync-worker.exe then click Open.
     
    Note: Replace IEUser with your actual Windows username.

  14. Repeat #8 to add sync-taskbar.exe
  15. Confirm both .exe files are on the Allow list then click on Apply
  16. Still on the Protection tab, select Trusted programs then click Browse.
  17. Repeat steps #8 to #10.
  18. Click OK to close the Agent Console Window.

Part II. Adding exception on the Web Console

Some settings are not available on the Agent Console. You will need to login to the Web Console using the username and password generated and set during the installation process.

  1. Open the Web Console shortcut that was saved on the Desktop after installation. It will be labeled as OfficeScan Web Console (HTML)
  2. Click on Agent and select Agent Management.
  3. Click on Workgroup from the left-hand panel then select your computer on the list

  5. Click on Settings then select Web Reputation Settings
  6. Click on the Internal Agents tab and scroll down toApproved/Blocked URL List
     
  7.  

  8. Type http://*.sync.com on the Type URL field and click on Add to Approved List
  9. Confirm that http://*.sync.com is on the list then click on Save.
  10. Click Close to go back to the Agent Management screen.
  11. Restart Sync.
