Can Sync.com read my files?
No. Your files are encrypted before they are uploaded, and Sync.com does not have the key needed to turn them back into readable files.
What happens if Sync.com is forced to hand over stored data?
The files stored in the cloud are encrypted. Without the key needed to unlock them, the stored data is unreadable.
Is this harder to use than Dropbox?

What if I forget my password?
For added privacy, email-based password recovery is turned off by default. You can choose to enable it in your account settings if you want an email recovery option.
